Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 12, 2026  |  Governing law: Ontario, Canada

LawOnline.ca ("LawOnline," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals who visit our website and interact with us. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable Canadian privacy law — including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

By using the LawOnline.ca website (the "Site"), you consent to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Who We Are

LawOnline.ca is a digital marketing agency based in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. We provide web design, SEO, content writing, and custom software services exclusively to Canadian law firms. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal services or legal advice.

2. What Personal Information We Collect

We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it to us through our contact form. The form collects:

  • Your name
  • Law firm name
  • Province or territory
  • Email address
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Current website URL (optional)
  • A message describing your firm and marketing goals

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as financial data, health information, or government-issued identification numbers through the Site.

3. Automatically Collected Information

When you visit the Site, our servers and third-party tools may automatically collect certain technical data, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring URLs. This information is used in aggregate to understand how visitors use our Site and to improve it. We do not use this data to identify individuals.

4. Google reCAPTCHA

Our contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA v2 to protect against automated spam submissions. When you complete the reCAPTCHA challenge, Google may collect your IP address, browser information, and behavioural signals to determine whether you are a human. This data is transmitted to and processed by Google in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. By submitting the contact form, you acknowledge and consent to Google's processing of this data.

5. Form Submission Processing (Formspree)

Contact form submissions are processed through Formspree, a third-party service. Formspree receives and forwards your form data to us by email. Your submission data may be temporarily stored on Formspree's servers. Formspree's handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy. We do not use Formspree for any purpose beyond receiving your inquiry.

6. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information you provide solely to:

  • Respond to your inquiry about our services;
  • Provide you with a free website audit or consultation, as requested;
  • Communicate with you about a potential or existing client relationship;
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not use it for automated profiling or decision-making.

7. Marketing Communications and CASL

If you contact us through the form, we may send you follow-up communications related to your inquiry. Beyond that, we will only send you commercial electronic messages if you have provided express consent as required by CASL. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or by using the unsubscribe mechanism in any email we send you.

8. Cookies

The Site may use cookies or similar local storage technologies to improve user experience (for example, to remember preferences or to support analytics). These are not used to collect personally identifiable information without your knowledge.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from using the Site, though some features may behave differently.

We do not use advertising cookies or track you across third-party websites.

9. Data Retention

We retain the personal information you provide for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law. If no client relationship results from your inquiry, we typically retain your contact information for no longer than two (2) years. You may request earlier deletion at any time (see Section 11).

10. Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical precautions to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Withdraw consent to our use of your personal information (subject to legal or contractual restrictions);
  • Request deletion of your information where we no longer have a legitimate purpose for retaining it;
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 13 below. We will respond within a reasonable time, and no later than 30 days.

12. Children's Privacy

Our Site and services are intended for business-to-business use by legal professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the revised Policy on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Site following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
